What is a Whole Food, Plant Based Diet?
A whole food plant-based diet means a diet that is MOSTLY made up of fruit, vegetables, grains and legumes or beans. This does NOT mean no animal foods. It DOES mean we work to eliminate highly processed foods like frozen dinners and pre-packaged meals from your diet. We concentrate more on home-prepared or made from scratch meals that don’t rely on animal products. The emphasis for your lifestyle change is on an 80% plant based diet. You can choose to incorporate small amounts of animal foods. However, I strongly recommend the elimination of dairy and processed oils. All of the recipes here are made without animal foods or processed oils. The simplest way for you to incorporate animal foods is to only eat them 2-3 times a week. This includes ALL animal foods including dairy, eggs, chicken, and fish.
This type of diet leads to many benefits including:
- A plant based diet can help every disease process known to humans
- The ability, over time, to prevent and/or reverse most diseases and conditions
- Feed your gut microbiome which produces 80% or more of your hormones
- Improve the health of your gut so you are better able to absorb the nutrients
- Support your immune system
- Reduce inflammation
- Lower cholesterol
- stabilize blood sugar
- Good bowel management

The whole food, plant based recipes on this page are from two sources. I link to recipes from plant based experts. I will share their recipes and links with my comments as to why I like them or how I use them. See the list below for who I follow and share links too. Also, each recipe I post lists the link to the source. And whenever possible, a link to the author’s page. An additional source is recipes I use and create at home.
